9 disks, 1 as hot-spare.

What does 'semi-hardware' mean? From my job I'm familure with high end hardware SCSI RAID solutions like the IBM ServeRAID 6M controller. I'm also familiar with Linux software RAID. I've not heard the term 'semi-hardware' before and I'm wondering what defines a semi-harddware RAID array when compared to a hardware RAID solution.
