Answering my own post. This was a case of "dll hell"

Somehow libqt3-mysql is not at the same level as libqt3, libqt3-devel and
qt3-common.
Urpmi just said the package was installed.
HOWEVER urpmi --allow-force libqt3-mysql and telling it three times (Simon
Says) that that was what I wanted seemed to force a downgrade from IIRC
3.3.4-22 to the .3.3.4-7 level for all four packages (a 48Meg download).

Now I can talk to the database...of course, now Zap2It does not like my ID
and password (which worked 20 minutes ago!!).....

Still crazy after all these years.....
