I picked it up on ebay for something like $10+$10 shipping. It is the " Impact VCB "

You must have BOTH:
RCA Audio cables OUT of the Dish box and IN to the PC
SVideo cable OUT of the dish box and IN to the PC

The RCA cables are for Audio, the SVideo cable is for video...you can use a composite cable instead, but you will have less picture quality.

Thanks Todd. What's the tuner card's name? And Where
did you buy it from?

It is interesting that you pointed out how audio
cables should be connected from the satellite receiver
OUT to the mythtv sound card audio IN. I thought the
tuner card has to have both video and audio sources to
make a complete video show. Am I missing something
here or there are different ways to achieve the same
result?

It works and I am doing it...with a cheap capture
card. You might consider adding the cheap card so
you can capture 2 sources at the same time. Then
following what I am doing...

I am using a cheap bt878 ($10) capture card with no
Tuner.
Run an SVIDEO cable from the Dish box to the capture
card.
Run RCA cables from Dish audio to the PC audio-in
for sound
To change channels I use an IR blaster. To make
that work read this:

http://losdos.dyndns.org:8080/public/mythtv-info/MythTV_DISH_IR_LED_TX_via_Modified_LIRC.html
...the myth-ledxmit.sh script won't work for LIRC7.2
(I have attached an updated version that does)

Side Note: when you setup the Input connections in
mythtv-setup you will tell it to use SVideo, so it
won't try to use the tuner. You will also tell it
how to change channels (see URL above for script).

Side Note #2: I am running this setup for Dish
recordings ($10 is a cheap investment)...and am also
using an Air2PC card for Digital OTA. My 2.4ghz P4
never breaks a sweat even record 2 shows at
once...and watching a 3rd.

hookup to a MythTV box withHauppage PVR-250

I have Dish Network Satellite and a MythTV box.
I'd like to record shows from satellilte to my
MythTV box. How do I hook them up?
  1. Using caxial cable: from the satellite
receiver coaxial OUT to the MythTV Hauppauge PVR-250
TV tunner IN (coaxial)? Or directly from the
satellite disk to the tuner IN (is this even
possible?)?
  2. Using composite cables: from the satellite
Red/White/Yellow OUT to the Hauppauge A/V IN?
  3. Using composite/S-Video cables: from the
satellite Adio/S-Video OUT to the Hauppage Audio
IN/S-Video IN.

Any comment and advise is welcome and much
appreciated!
