This is probably off topic but has anyone seen anything in their searches about the possibility of creating a cd image that the  XBox will boot from without modifying hardware?  What I'm trying for is not having to modify the hard disk so that I won't lose my ability to play on xbox live.
Used to do this on my dreamcast (winCE) but I'm sure the industry has learned from that one.

I have thought about this possibility. It would be really cool if there were a way to store all the host specific info (like IP,hostname,/etc/hosts,backend address, etc) in a gamesave or something, and have a bootable DVD that reads the host specific stuff from the gamesave on startup, or creates the gamesave and allows the user to configure everything if it does not exist. You would still need a mod of some kind to run the unsigned code.
