When I try to build mythtv-0.18.1 with
the nvidia USE flag (thus enabling XvMC),
add USE="xvmc" to your /etc/make.conf, and then "emerge --NEWUSE world" to make
sure libraries and dependencies get built.
Turns out I had mangled my xorg install during the debugging process.
Re-emerge'ing xorg-x11 did the trick.
