I can't find anything in the stuff about mythcontext either.  So is
mysql compiled in?  I get teh same error no matter whoes build i use.

Check if the contents of these files are correct. If the file is missing, you wont need to create it.
 
~/.mythtv/mysql.txt
/root/.mythtv/mysql.txt
/.mythtv/mysql.txt
