Possibly a good idea for future themes & the new GUI would be to obey the 10%
'safe area' rule. This will virtually guarantee that all widgets or OSD
content are always displayed onscreen (though some TVs may overscan even more
than 10% !).

Of course there's still the slightly thorny issue of setting up the screen size
limits for the GUI in the first place, but I have a plan to work on that in the
near future.. something along the lines of the 'screen calibration' menu in
XBMC. In that, you move two triangles to the extremes of the screen (i.e. top
left & bottom right) to ensure all the action happens where you can see it
during normal operation. But if anyone wants to steal my thunder, feel free
;-)

There's also possibly a need for a setup screen to enable people to properly
set their TV's brightness/contrast controls (or TV output).. This would include
signals like PLUGE (for correct brightness & contrast) & colour bars (for
correct colour temperature/saturation). This would be very simple to add into
a setup menu, although calling external screen setup programs (e.g.
nvidia-settings) might give rise to other issues (such as which program to call
since not everybody uses the same graphics hardware).

Justin.
