My desktop machine started doing that after I upgraded from xfree86 to
xorg. I could still watch the archived shows using mplayer but myth
causes the box to lock up so hard it won't even accept a ping. I think
the problem is a device driver incompatibility as xorg is lagging behind
xfree86 in that department. Specifically, my box has a Radeon 9600
which is explicitly not supported (yet) by the xorg ati/radeon driver.
The mplayer command line allows you to specify which driver to use for
output, so I can select a non-accelerated driver and watch shows at a
lower frame-rate or in a smaller window. I can only assume that Myth is
seeing the detected hardware and calling on a feature that isn't
implimented.
