If you are recording SDTV through the HD-3000 it sounds like you are using your CPU for MPEG encoding of the SDTV stream. That would certainly explain the high CPU rates. Am I incorrect in saying this?

I'm not recording anything.

But if MythTV encodes and decodes the incoming video, rather than
just passing it through like xawtv, that might explain the high CPU.
Xawtv uses ~7% CPU to display video.
