Hi. I'm considering purchasing an HD-3000 and I'd like a little
advice. I currently have two Hauppauge PVR-350 cards in two
separate machines. Both machines have fairly low-end hardware so I
use the decoder on both 350 cards. Output is excellent, by the way. :)

If I purchase one of these cards, can the captured files from the
HD-3000 be transcoded into a stream that can be played back through
the 350's decoder? The machines are really not fast enough to play
back without the decoder.

Speaking of transcoding, does MythTV use the actual 'transcode'
program or does it use its own internal transcoding?

If they can't play a standard NTSC stream, no way will they
do a HD stream, and the pvr350 can't help you.

To play a decent HD stream, you need some pretty good hardware.
I've been "living" with a P3-1400 and it will barely play with XvMC,
but I would't recommend it. I'm about to build a much faster
machine, AMD 64X2, but that's overkill.

I upgraded from an AMD AthlonXP 2800 to an AMD Athlon64 3800+ X2 (dual core) just to be able to play back HD content from my HD3000 without having to use XvMC (which I never got working right). It takes some beef to watch Conan in 1080i and resize it down to my 720p output.
