Thank you Steve for trying to find a common thread in all of this.

1. firewire chipset being used (lspci|grep FireWire)
01:08.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): VIA Technologies, Inc. IEEE 1394 Host Controller (rev 46)

2. your plugreport output for the Node connected to the DCT.
Host Adapter 0
==============

Node 0 GUID 0x0011060000006a67
------------------------------
libiec61883 error: error reading oMPR
libiec61883 error: error reading iMPR

Node 1 GUID 0x0014e8fffecd1845
------------------------------
oMPR n_plugs=1, data_rate=2, bcast_channel=63
oPCR[0] online=1, bcast_connection=0, n_p2p_connections=1
       channel=63, data_rate=0, overhead_id=0, payload=376
iMPR n_plugs=0, data_rate=2

3. the output from a 6200ch -v channel change
The id for this box was not included in the 6200ch program so I had to manually add it to get the channel changes to work. However, the program runs perfectly and it able to change the channel flawlessly 100% of the time.

./6200ch -v -n 1 3
starting with node: 1
node 1: vendor_id = 0x000014e8 model_id = 0x0000620a
AV/C Command: 003 = Op1=0x00487C20 Op2=0x00487C20 Op3=0x00487C23

4. Your Kernel (uname -r)

5. Your 'modinfo raw1394' output

6. your accuracy rate (0 - 5, 5=perfect channel changes, 0=numbers get detected but rarely does it work).
5 - channel changes always occur flawlessly, as far as I can tell..

7. a brief description of what your box does when you try and change channels. I have a brief description of what happens to me below in the quoted email.
Channel changing always works, but I only seem to be able to receive a stream from the cable box about 30% of the time. I have yet to figure out what the circumstances are that yield valid captures, because successful recordings seem to occur at random.
