D'oh!
When I originally ran myth-setup, I had not picked a hauppauge card.
I changed this later, but I didn't restart mythbackend. Once I
restarted mythbackend, everything started working normally.
Sorry for the noise...

Hi list
I set up a new Myth box with a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 150 (model
1045). I loaded the ivtv 0.4 driver, and successfully captured
output from /dev/video0 (cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg). I viewed this
using mplayer/kplayer, and the video and sound were both working
properly.
Then I installed Myth, picked the hauppauge 250/350 card in the
setup, and attempted to record. I am seeing these messages from the
myth server:
2005-12-13 20:00:03.738 Changing from None to RecordingOnly
2005-12-13 20:00:03.758 Unknown video codec
2005-12-13 20:00:03.759 Please go into the TV Settings, Recording
Profiles and
2005-12-13 20:00:03.759 setup the four 'Software Encoders' profiles.
2005-12-13 20:00:03.760 Assuming RTjpeg for now.
2005-12-13 20:00:03.761 NVR: Error, unknown audio codec
2005-12-13 20:00:03.793 NVR: Won't work with the streaming
interface, falling back
VIDOCGMBUF:: Invalid argument
2005-12-13 20:00:03.819 TVRec: Recording Prematurely Stopped
I already went through the TV Settings -> Recording Profiles ->
Software Encoders setup. I get a black screen and similar output in
the log file when I attempt to watch live tv. Is there something
I'm not doing right here?
setup:
Debian pinned to mostly Sarge with some testing/unstable in the mix
Linux 2.6.12
ivtv 0.4
mythtv 0.18.1
