Alternatively, if you want to get LIRC version 0.7.2 to work, you can just edit the lirc_i2c.c file and swap two lines there and add a define for I2C_ALGO_BIT there or in kcompat.h. As documented here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-401340-highlight-i2calgobit.html
