Exactly.

If installer=yum, then you are correct. A manual build will not
provide any rpms that yum will swallow.

For the curious: Since ivtv was upgraded to 0.4.2 old kmlds can't cope
with the new firmware naming. In packaging terms this means that the
file dependencies change upon upgrading. That's all proper and correct.

A sane or "smart" dependency solver detects that he can only upgrade
ivtv if the old kmdls for the old kernels are removed. A dump
depsolver will simply get confused and give up spitting spurious
errors at the user to get them at the same state of confusion.

Even apt performed better than this. Do yourself a favour and please
use apt or smart.
