We use Smstools (http://smstools.meinemullemaus.de/) which works very smoothly, but hardware is always a problems because of cable and cel devices compatibility. Lately we´ve found a little device from Huawei, the E220 model which connects trhough USB and works fine. I think the best hw solution would be the Falcon modems, but unfortunately they are hard and expensive to find here. Check with the guys from Netways (www.netways.de), I believe they have a "ready" package using Falcon as SMS gateway fully integrated with Nagios.
