Sounds like the fork/vfork issue with FreeBSD's libpthread and Nagios. The only solution I know of is to add the following to /etc/libmap.conf and then do a stop/start of Nagios:
[nagios] libpthread.so.2 libthr.so.2 libpthread.so libthr.so This forces Nagios to use an alternative POSIX threads library instead of FreeBSD's default thread library.
