DBD::Sybase can use either the Sybase libraries (which are provided with Sybase ASE), or FreeTDS (www.freetds.org). Personally, I find the FreeTDS package easier, and much, *much* smaller (596k vs. 200+MB). I've used both, and they seem to be functionally the same, especially for the purposes of this plugin.
