Yeah, been running that since day one, since when rollout is done we'll probably have about 18k servers and around 3 million service checks...

Hey Dan, I too have been wrestling alligators with service and host check latencies averaging around 60s, and increasing to 100+ (sometimes to 300) after a few reloads during the day. This morning, I enabled the use_large_installation_tweaks option. As of a minute ago, my host check latency is now averaging 2.116s, and service check latency is averaging 0.748s. I didn't see if you had tried this yet, it might be something to consider.
