Similarly, we use a Motorola Razr V3 mobile phone connected via USB cable to the Nagios system and send our alerts using the gammu software as well. We have the phone on an SMS-only plan from T-Mobile. We've had some issues with signal strength to the mobile phone but relocating the mobile, using an active USB cable to overcome the distance, to a different location in the datacenter resolved that issue.
