Lordy Be Maggie, have you been checking into this or what???????????????? Yep, as excited as I WAS about this, not going to jump on the led, even though I have that 100 dollar coupon. I need it to work on more than just one gel company!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Maggie for all of your info!!!!!!!!!!!!! diana from indiana

First off: these LED lights STILL USE ULTRA VIOLET LIGHT! The UV is just being produced by light-emitting diodes (LEDs) instead of traditional flourescent bulbs. From what I've been able to find out, flourescent bulbs emit UV in a broader wavelength range-- making it possible for one lamp to cure multiple brands and types of gels-- but LED technology allows for fine tuning the wavelength to the extent that it's possible to sync a gel very well to a specific lamp and vice verse.

So a gel that cures at 385 nanometers of UV cures fine under a lamp that emits light in the 365-395 nm range as long as it gets enough exposure for enough time-- and so will a gel that cures at 392 nm. But these LED lights can be fine tuned so that they have a wavelength of 382-385 nm (or whatever) to work with very specific gels.

And yes, for the most part, I am pulling those numbers out of my butt for the purpose of example.

The more I read about LED tech, the more I'm willing to wait at least another 5 years before I invest in one of these lamps. So many claims of never having to change the bulbs-- but there are many factors that go into determining the life of an LED bulb. Unless the lamp comes with a 10 year warranty that includes replacing the diodes-- I'm not buying. We simply do NOT know how the technology is going to hold up in typical salon use yet.

I'll be mighty PO'd if I spend $400+ on a lamp and half the diodes go out in a year.

And I won't revisit my issues concerning needing a lamp that cures mulitple gels. I believe we've all voiced our opinion on that.
