I had 3 dell Axiums for years - the Dell version of the Palm. Did appointments on there, read books, etc. A few times they crashed and I lost everything if it hadn't synced that day. Those days are long gone! I love love love my iphone, it does everything my Axium did and SOOOO much more. Just read Maggies message - which was hilarious - but the comment "I figure it's going to be another 5-10 years before palm sized computers are back in style" made me go hmmmm... iphones ARE palm sized computers that simply do MUCH more than the palms. It feels like going from an Apple IIe to a laptop. My online booking system syncs automatically with the calender that I use on my phone or computer. I get text messages when a client books appointments (optional, but I like it). I get a 10 minute beep right before my next appointment, which is great for keeping me on time. I LOVE that my calendar is in the online world, I can access it from anywhere and if I drop my phone in water (ahem) then nothing is ever lost. The salon can book, I can book from my laptop or phone. Plus I hear EVERY day how much my clients love booking their own appointment... and I love it taking their CC # if they no show ;)
I check my commute before I leave by just opening my traffic app and clicking on "my commutes" - its preloaded and it tells me when to leave so I get there on time... traffic in Seattle can make a commute range by 20 minutes if its bad, so this saves me a lot of time - or keeps me from being late. If I'm going to a ball game at the stadium, I can put the stadium name in and it will give me a traffic report, incident report and tell me how long it will take me so I know when to leave... you can put in grandma's address and tell her when you will be there - its never been more than 3 minutes off! Dying for a Jamba Juice or Starbucks and don't know where the closest one is? Around Me will tell me the closest one and give me gps directions in 20 seconds. These are just a few of the apps I use constantly. As for typing, I use the pad of my right middle finger - weird? - probably. but its what I've done since I got the thing and had to figure out the nails issue, and I type very quickly on it now, the only thing I've been faster on is T-9 on a old 12 key phone.. I'm going to check out the swipe thing Lynnette said though, that sounds cool, looks like there are 2 app versions for iphone. downloading the free one now :) Many like stylus's and there are TONS out there for the iphone now. You can get cases that they click into so it gives you that Palm feel of just pulling it out and using it. or pens that have them on the end. The only adjustment I ever have to make to my typing is if I go from really long to really short nails - and vice versa... the angle of my finger has to shift. Have a 10 minute break at work? Clear your inbox, check facebook and read a few pages of a book in Kindle for iphone. I currently have at least 5 scrabble games going with friends (some nail techs and a few clients too). Good exercise for the brain, I NEVER played scrabble before this app. Now typing on the ipad is even easier, Yes - my name is Jess, and I'm a nerd who love toys. They keyboard is close enough to full size, and I just type with the pads of my fingers. The calendar interface is like an old day planner, so thats really cool - again its always synced and up to date without me having to do a thing. The best thing about the ipad? My 3yr old LOVES it. On a day like today, where she woke at 7:30 and comes in my room and I want more sleep, I hand it over. She has about 15 games, from spelling, to puzzles, to coloring and reading books. She knows how to use her page of games, clicks on what she wants, and today it let me sleep 2 hours more while she quietly sat next to me in my bed and colored pictures, dressed up dolls, read dr seuss and played zoo animal matching games to work her memory. Any single mom who needs sleep would see its a life saver! For me... I've been catching up on Dexter while working on my computer at night, it plays Netflix automatically.... just got through season 2 while editing my website on my laptop. OK I'll stop. I just have to explain some of the day to day uses as to why I love these devices.
