Thanks for all the responses. I have a couple of ladies that the cotton under
the corners really do help too. I have this one though that insist she has an
ingrown on her first three toes on each foot on each side. That is 12 ingrown
toenails. She has tiny little toes and they don't look like they are ingrown to
me. I will trim out a small ingrown for someone if its not to bad but this lady
keeps insisting that I need to cut more and like I said her toenails are tiny.
There isn't much of a sidewall. If I would cut to much she would be bleeding. I
have always heard it is against State Board laws to cut out ingrowns, I was
just
wondering if it really is true because I have never read it anywhere.
Thanks Debbie, I think I will tell her that I am not allowed to do anything
invasive and that is what I would be doing if I cut her nails any deeper.

I suffered an ingrown toenail last Oct.. and HAD to see a podiatrist for MONTHS
after the intial visit!  First of all.. I KNEW I would NEVER be able to hurt
myself enough to remove the ingrown part.  I tried to fix it myself, gently,
and
no way!  Not a complete wuss, just knew it was that bad.  So.. podiatrist takes
a whack at it, with ZERO novocaine or anything!  Gawd!  I nearly fainted and
she
had to quit before she actually got the dang thing done!  She HOPED she had
done
enuf, but NOoooooo... of course not!  This was followed by many follow up
visits, where we got NOWHERE because she wouldnt' believe ME when I insisted
that I had an infection!  Can you believe this!?  FINALLY, she admits I DO have
an infection, then prescribes antibiotics, then I had to go back for MORE
visits
that finally involved yet ANOTHER painful invasive "get the sucker out"
procedure!  I was sedated, wore my MP3 Player headphones, had my husband drive
me  AND sit in the room with me for moral support,  AND read a magazine to
avoid
another fainting episode!  lol!  You just CANNOT go digging and poking around
on
any part of my body like that and not expect me to faint!  Golly!  So... my
advice, let a professional handle it!  As long as its NOT the one I went to!

Anonymous in Ohio..
hehe!

For some clients I actually push cotton in to allow a wedge between the skin
and
the nail so that it doesn't hurt them as much this seems to work for about 50
percent of the clients in the way of relief...I get them too and have found
that
as long as I leave them alone and don't mess with them keeping them longer then
normal they don't bother me as much.

This is probably against your state board license laws :) It would be
considered
"invasive"

I dont have ingrowns, hubby is bordering on them, mine are pincher type.

Many techs as a regular practice cut the corners deep  \_/ butt that's not
always the answer..

I have tried several different methods and the only one that brought me relief
was to allow the nails to grow out just past the edge - yes I get comments all
the time.. got them puppies a little long doncha?? Well - they are not THAT
long
:) Also I have been doing hard gel or acrylic on the offending digits for
months
now and I am starting to see some change in the shape and the degree of
"dooming/pinching".

On hubby I have asked again to allow me to let them grow out past the edge.. he
really doesnt want to start the podiatrist visits, so he let me do this.. I
clip
just the sharp corner so it doesn't poke him and he hasn;t whined about his
toes
in a while now ..

BUT these methods dont work for everyone.. some find the deep cuts - and WE
have
to be VERY carful doing that - offer relief, some find it makes things worse.

There even has been discussion about constant deep cutting the corners is
creating ingrowns.. so watch what you are doing there!

Your best bet is to align yourself with a local podiatrist and refer them over
there.

How many of you remove ingrown toenails? Is it against State Board, depending

your state? I am needing some info on this subject if anyone has any. Thanks.
