ugh....................... first off, you are correct. most polishes are 3 free already and come in a "rainbow of colors". as for pregnancy, havent we come into the 20th century and realized that these things (coloring your hair, polishing your nails, getting a perm) are no longer thought to be harmful for the small amount of time you (as a non-professional) are exposed to them????? i dont think women are warned of these things anymore. as for the med claims, hopefully doug will chime in, BUT................ the nail is made up of used blood cells that get pushed out the matrix. no polish is going to change the structure of the nail. it could have boars blood, hair from your dead uncle and a voodoo hex and the nail will still be the same. as for the claim of the anti-fungal properties of the garlic and tea-tree, that may be true, but the "benefits" will last only as long as the time it takes for the solvents to evaporate. as far as i know, there are no time released ingredients for polish. and then what about the underside of the nail where the fungal infection is most likely to occur? vitamins??? meh..................only if you take them internally. ok.............those are my rambling thoughts for this morning :) youre welcome :D denise In a message dated 2/14/2011 6:20:56 A.M. One of my clients who I don't see regularly brought in this polish called "Dr.'s Remedy" that she'd bought at her doctors office for $16! It was supposed to be fantastic, but she couldn't remember exactly why... something about it containing vitamins and it wasn't dangerous to her health like all the other polishes were. Her only nail problem, besides having naturally weak nails, is that she got 1 of her fingertips cut off in a lawn mowing accident last summer and after surgery the nail has grown in looking clubbed, with a split about 1/8" running vertically from the free edge. She doesn't have any allergies, is not pregnant, and still colors her hair, so I can't figure out why this lady (a widow who is on a very tight budget anyway) would need to buy polish that costs double than what any professional brands such as OPI and CND cost. Here's what their web site claims: ___________________________________________________________________________ The birth of Dr.'s REMEDY® began with a warning. Dr. Cirlincione's wife was pregnant and advised against using hair dyes, eating certain foods, and being exposed to harsh chemicals. Dr. Cirlincione began to research the toxins contained in most commercial nail polish, which is commonly used by pregnant women. It became obvious that formaldehyde, toluene and DBP are not only linked to serious health problems, but also potentially damaging to the nail as well. Dr. Cirlincione partnered with Dr. Spielfogel and together they formulated Dr.'s REMEDY®, free from THE BIG 3, but also UNIQUELY ENRICHED with ingredients, such as tea tree oil and garlic bulb extract, which are naturally occurring anti-fungal, antibacterial, and healthier for the nail. Not only is Dr.'s REMEDY® better for you, it comes in a rainbow of today's most fashionable colors. •Enhanced with naturally occurring anti-fungal ingredients and vitamins to promote healthier nails. •Appealing to women with discolored nails, pregnant women, or parents looking for safer alternatives for their children. •Allergen friendly for those sensitive to chemicals in commercial nail polish. •Enriched means a stronger, healthier looking nail, which is appealing to everyone. ___________________________________________________________________________ Now this is a great question (especially for Doug Schoon).....is there any validity to ALL of these claims? Aren't the professional brands already formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP- free? Are any of you familiar with this product? Are times so hard that doctors aren't making enough money already and need to infringe on nail techs territory by selling nail polish in their offices?
