Yes, here's another vote for Square.

I actually switched from the credit card company that I was using, which had
very competitive rates. But I got rid of my salon land line, so I wasn't going
to have a phone line for the credit card terminal any longer.

I did a retro-active comparison of all my credit card transactions for the 12
month period prior to doing the switch and found that Square would have put an
additional $30 something dollars in my pocket had I been using it instead!

It's not such a significant difference that I would have opted to give up the
option of having clients be able to write in their tip on their own, but when
factored with the additional $50 dollar a month savings of losing the phone
line, it was no contest.

I also love that I can now sell gift certificates on site at events like
holiday boutiques and such and take credit. That was cool.

Square deposits funds as fast or faster than the more traditional merchant
services-- 24 to 48 hours.

I have not invested in a receipt printer to pair with the Square, but they are
now available.
I love that once a client has used a credit card and I have sent a receipt via
text or email to them, every time they use that card in the future, I don't
have to re-enter their phone/email addy.

I wish Square would rework their tipping options. They did, at least, offer AN
option. But you'd be surprised how  many OCD people there are. Most people
don't want to do math to figure out the tip. They need a nice, even number in
their head. So if a 15% tip would mean an additional $4.25, they don't want to
deal with it. They WANT to be able to just round up to the nearest $5. But
Square only allows you to add tips by percentage. AND, the little tip buttons
are directly under the signature line, I had people accidently adding tips!

I turned off the tip option and just suck it up and ask directly now when I'm
entering the amount. I HATE doing that! But it's better than someone accidently
adding 20% that they didn't mean to!

Also, you never batch out and the system doesn't batch daily, it sort of
batches after each transaction-- or maybe every 6 hours or something. So I get
emails for every transaction, and then I'll get an email that says "Square has
sent you $45.92" or "Square has sent you $237.94." I haven't figured out the
exact pattern yet. Sometimes it just deposits the funds from a single
transaction, and sometimes it deposits the funds from 6 transactions all
together. ???? Whatever. This is hardly an issue for me, but I know some
serious accounting geeks that would go crazy over not being able to predict
each deposit amount and time.

So that's a longer, more detailed accounting of using Square. Definitely do the
math, I know that higher "discount" rate looks like SO much more money than
rates for more traditional companies, but there's no transaction fee, no
statement fee, no monthly service fee, no contract, and no equipment to buy or
lease. It comes out cheaper or at least competitive in the end.
