Don't let a letter threaten you. If they want to take you to court then fine. Like Rhonda posted, they rarely go to court. They use a collection agency.

It would depend where they would file, your state or their state, but if you did not show up for court, a judgment would be filed. And this would effect your credit, but they will not throw you in jail.

I hate it when people threaten people with it. And the ones that threaten, usually don't follow thru. It is a pain in the butt to follow thru. If you think you have any idea that they may be wrong, let them do it.

In this case with the interent, I would see if the phone calls are from the collection agecny or attorney office. I would try to deal with them without an attorney. Then try to deal, but you deal on your terms. Tell them you will make payments, if they won't accept, then say fine, sue me. keep track of all phone records, offers. If you do have to go to court, you have proof that u tried.

When you have a judgment from a court, you just make payments to the clerks office, and the judgment can be paid off. sorry, off my soap box now. just I hate it when threatening letters does not end the world(diana from indiana who has worked in the court system)
