Whatever else you might think of Eric S Raymond, the URL I cited is still the best summary I've seen, and probably the most help we can give Deric in under 64 bytes. Because let's face it, no matter *what* Deric's native language is, he's not going to get anything useful from NANOG or any other mailing list till he either reads Eric's FAQ, or otherwise learns the info in there.
