The Chilkoot Indian Administration has filled the position of Tribal
Administrator. The new Tribal Administrator is Barbara C. Lewis who
currently lives in Coupeville, Washington. She is scheduled to arrive in
Haines
on December 13 and assume her new duties on December 14.

The position of Tribal Administrator for the Chilkoot Indian Association was
made possible by a grant that was obtained from the ANA, Administration for
Native Americans, it is a 17-month position.

Although she resides in Washington State, the new Tribal Administrator is no
stranger to Haines. She is a member of the Alaska Native Sisterhood, Camp 5 in
Haines and is an Executive Committee Member for ANS Grand Camp. Her
sister, Georgiana Hotch, says that Barbara is very knowledgeable in Federal
Indian Law and the unique position of Alaska Natives.

Barbara Lewis has family ties in Haines. Her parents are the late George A.
Lewis (Saa Aat) and Matilda Watson Lewis (Ka Nash Tlaa) and, of course, her
sister Georgiana Hotch. She graduated from Sheldon Jackson Junior College
in Sitka and attended Arkansas City Junior College in Kansas. She has worked
for the Yakutat Native Community, Cook Inlet Native Association in anchorage
