The federal government is studying a proposal to bury spent nuclear fuel rods deep in the rock of the Canadian shield of Northern Ontario. Grand Chief Charles Fox of the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation told Ottawa and the Assembly of First Nations that aboriginals don't want nuclear waste buried in their territory or transported across their land. He wrote to federal Natural Resources Minister Ralph Goodale to tell him to keep the waste out of their territory, which covers much of northern Ontario.
