Dear Ann,

I hope the following will be of some use. In his omnipotence (self
proclaimed) it never occurred to Mr. Harris that he might pick the wrong
person's child. Well he picked a bunch of them and Liberal, NDP or
Green, we are not about to let him get away with it. The kids are all
perfectly willing to talk.

Let me tell you about something that happened at my kid's highschool
today. The big blue bus was in town with our dear Mr. Harris
comfortably esconced but in need of a display of enthusiastic support.
He was having a little problem with hostile greetings in the downtown
area, so his minions headed out to northwest London.

At two area secondary schools they recruited kids. Hey, it was a beautiful
day and you could smoke on the bus - and they would write you a note letting
you get out of class. Unfortunately, no one explained to the kids that they
would be acting as a cheering section for the Tory election propaganda
machine before they got on the bus. By the time my son and his friends
realized what was expected of them in return for this day of "freedom" they
were on their way to St. Thomas. My son and his friends tried phoning for a
ride as soon as they could, but none of the parents were free to go and get
them. Afraid they would
be dumped in St. Thomas for non-compliance, they put on the t-shirts and
hats that proclaimed them to be part of "Team Harris" and milled around
as directed. They had been drilled on cheers on the bus, by an inept
fellow who actually told them they would feel "gay" at first about the
cheering, but they would get used to it. None of them cheered. They
did try to tell an organizer that they were not Harris supporters, but
he didn't care. I guess that about sums it up, Harris and his club just
don't care. Talk about superficiality and dishonesty.

Let me see, Harris is pushing for discipline in schools and encouraging
kids to play hooky by allowing them to indulge in smoking under age in
public. This shows a respect for education, discipline and the rule of
law? If his support is so strong, why didn't he just ask a bunch of
Conservative youth to meet him in London? He basically shanghaied kids
and used them in a sham demonstration of support. They were instructed
not to speak to the media. One girl kept saying that she felt she had
to do something because she accepted food and a ride, just like the
historical practice of buying votes. My son couldn't stand it any more
and as Harris was exiting his speaking engagement, my son shouted "Dudley
George lives" from about 2 feet away from him. Dudley was a friend of
my son's; we're not involved in aboriginal rights issues for nothing. There
were a group of young people who came in from a city 200 kilomteres away.
They actively recruited their peers. Many of them admitted to being drunk
and boasted that their room, board and alcohol would be provided as long as
they stayed with the bus and did cheer-leading.

The kids are all quite upset at how easily they were duped and how they
were pressured into acting as if they supported the Tories. Many of
them are willing to talk, in fact anxious too. They recognized the
dishonesty and the callousness of the Harris team and they want to speak
up for themselves and have an opportunity to tell what they have learned
about Harris's true colours. What can they do?

I guarentee that none of these kids will ever vote Conservative after
today. They were used and they're mad.

Men like Harris make my dreams impossible.

May peace prevail on earth,
Pat
