DOE database opened

The U.S. Department of Energy's Oak Ridge operation has opened its database
of environmental information, known as the Oak Ridge Environmental
Information System, to the general public.

The database contains more than 7 million environmental data records from
current and historical sampling programs, according to a press release.

The site is:
http://www-oreis.bechteljacobs.org:8080/oreis/help/oreishome.html.

Previously, this information was
available only in paper form at DOE's Information Resource Center in Oak
Ridge.

For people who don't have access to a computer, DOE said a publicly
accessible computer soon will be placed at the IRC at 105 Broadway Ave.,
Oak Ridge.

Colorado firm gets DOE environment job

A Colorado firm has received an $11 million subcontract for environmental
support activities on the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge reservation.

NFT Inc., based in Lakewood, Colo., received the contract as part of DOE's
Mentor ProtÉgÉ Pilot Initiative -- a program designed to assist small and
disadvantaged businesses.

The company was awarded the subcontract by Bechtel Jacobs Co., DOE's
environmental manager in Oak Ridge.
