Tribal Spokespeople Available Following Oral Arguments to Answer Questions
Regarding Prop 5 and Tribal Gaming

SAN FRANCISCO, May 31 /PRNewswire/ -- California tribal government
representatives will attend the presentation of oral arguments on Prop 5 to
the California State Supreme Court tomorrow morning in San Francisco. Prop
5, a state ballot measure which would protect existing tribal gaming on
tribal lands, was overwhelming passed by more than 5 million California
voters last November. Las Vegas gaming interests funded lawsuits in an
effort to block the initiative. A decision from the court is expected about
90 days after oral arguments.

The California Supreme Court is located in State Building in the Civic
Center at 350 McAllister Street in San Francisco. The building is between
Polk Street and Larkin. The oral arguments will begin at 9:00 a.m. and it
is anticipated that they will conclude between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m.

Designated spokespersons Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians Tribal Chairman
Mark Macarro, Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians Tribal Chairman Anthony Pico
and Morongo Band of Mission Indians Tribal Chairperson Mary Ann Martin
Andreas and attorney Mark Epstein will be available following the Supreme
Court hearing for interviews outside the court.

A group of 68 tribal governments has organized the United Tribes Compact
Steering Committee (UTCSC), for the purpose of working with Governor Gray
Davis to find a process to implement the gaming guidelines contained in
Proposition 5 that was overwhelmingly approved by over 63% of the
electorate in November. UTCSC represents the largest number of tribal
governments in California that currently seek gaming compacts with the
state and is one of three tribal government groups presently in discussions
with the Davis administration.
