Some might, but Ctrl-L also works in IE, so it's not like we're really being inconsistent. In general, using Alt for regular shortcuts isn't a good idea, because it conflicts with shortcuts for menu items-- the HIG specifically advises against it for this reason[1]. Are we sure that there are no menus in any nautilus locale that use Alt-D to activate them? Cheeri, Calum.
