Finally I figured out how to run the script
1) Copy the sample script file into
~/.local/share/nautilus-python/extensions
2) Provide execute permission for the file from permissions tab
3) nautilus -q and then nautilus --no-desktop [In this way python
Exceptions will get printed in the console itself]

The documentation is not so clear and beginners will find it difficult to
understand
