Please be more specific than that. "An error" means nothing. What error?
What did you run? What does your nbd-server configuration look like?

You can't "start nbd using modprobe". You load the module (which loads
the necessary support into the kernel), and then you run the client
(which starts a connection and sets things up so you can use it).
