As you'd expect, there's been a lot of discussion on this point; but with the Metadata Implementing Rule having passed through parliament, the mappings are now European law in Commission Regulation 1205/2008 of 3 Dec '08: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32008R1205:E N:NOT (See Part D.2 of the Annex.)
