Dear all,

We said that we'd report MashMyData progress to this list, hope that's
still OK with everyone. Stephen P., Phil K., Alastair Gemmell and I had
a useful progress and discussion meeting today, the notes from which are
on the project Wiki: http://code.google.com/p/mashmydata/wiki/9June2010.

The main points of interest for this list are:

1. We are investigating driving the whole intercomparision process from
a WebGIS-like interface, in contrast with the wizard/menu-driven
approaches used in other similar projects.

2. We have been experimenting with e-Science Central (a cloud service
for managing users and their data, together with workflows that process
the data). However it's not clear whether the security systems of eSC
and other related system (e.g. Earth System Grid) can be made to
interoperate. Also we need to sort out the problem of how a user can
delegate his/her authority to a web portal.

3. Hence we need to come up with the design for the security
infrastructure earlier than anticipated.

The e-Science Central team are visiting Reading next week, and hopefully
we can address some of these questions. The general problem of how to
interact securely with cloud systems through a third-party user
interface needs some research.

(Phil and Stephen - please note the actions and let me know if you have
any corrections/additions.)

Cheers, Jon
