5 teams came to Florida to compete for the Mendelblatt Team Race. The
Mendelblatt is named after Frank Mendelblatt, father of Mark and David.
Both were successful college sailors. Racing started around 10:00 with a
light northwest breeze. A cold front passed over the area bringing cooler
air and some rain. The breeze quickly built and by the end of the day there
were gusts of up to 25 knots. It was more survival then team racing so the
sailors were sent ashore around 3pm. 33 of the 50 scheduled races were
completed. One protest was filed resulting in a DSQ for USF.

On Sunday the breeze was much lighter and shiftier. Puffs could be up to
15 knots and lulls could be down to 7. The breeze continued to shift from
northeast to northwest, causing the mark boat to make constant corrections.
All five round robins were completed. One protest was heard resulting in
a DSQ for USF. Thanks to all the Tritons for their hard work and for
getting races off quickly. Congratulations to Stanford for coming across
the country to win the Mendelblatt Trophy.
