The Mystic Lake TR Invitational was a success for all eight teams. 86 races (21 per team plus two re-sails) were held over two days in a variety of wind conditions. On Saturday a shifty Northerly challenged competitors with big variations. At times the wind was straight down the lake from the North with 12 knots or more. At other times there were huge shifts and lulls. Some beats were one-tack, some starts saw such velocity changes that competitors were over early or late. In one start all six boats were over the line early, on another all three Harvard boats were over, in still another all six boats were quite late. Round one was completed and most of round two as well. On Sunday a very light South wind was enough to complete round two by noon. Just as the third and final round-robin started blasts from the West crossed the lake and a start was abandoned without moving marks. The South wind (right from the dam) settled down to 8-15 knots for very fast and lively t! eam racing for the remainder of the afternoon. Racing concluded at 3:15.
Tufts Two (Tufts sophomore team) won overall with consistent speed. It was their speed and fleet racing skills that allowed them to best Brown in all three matches. Brown had an excellent team with superior team racing boat handling skill which is how they beat Tufts One (Tufts junior team) in all three of their matches. Brown's only other loss was to Dartmouth and as such they tied for first. Thanks to Tufts freshmen Pierre duPont, Grace Peck, James Moody, Max Bennett, and Rolfe Glover for sharing finish line and scoring duties. Thanks also goes to John Tagliamonte (Tufts'88) for judging on Saturday.
