Hi! We need a digital camera and there are so many to choose from. So, seeing that many of us online moms post digital pictures, thought I should come to you all for suggestions! The reason why we want one now is so we can take and share pictures asap when this baby comes (any hour/day now). Also, we need to start a nice (business) photo album of tables/rooms when they are set-up with our chair covers.
Tonight we bought an Olympus D-580 and have 14 days to return it, un-opened. We bought it because it was on sale for $219 (from $299) till tonight and also came with a free Lexmark Z816 color printer (after instant & mail-in rebates). The camera has the following features:
4.0 Megapixel
3x optical / 4x digital Zoom
1.8 LCD viewing screen
16MB x-D picture card
Quicktime movie mode with sound
Takes 2AA batteries (included) or 1 x LB-01 (CR-V3) lithium battery pack or
2 x AA NiMH rechargeable We went to Best Buy prior to this and one of the sales guys recommended a comparable Kodak camera (that came with a lithium ion battery).
Anyway, I really want CLEAR pictures (like you get with a good 35mm camera) when they come out of a printer (who doesn't? lol) but I really notice a wide range in the quality of digital hard copies. I am not sure how much the printer and/or the photo paper play a roll in this.
Any recommendations or tips are VERY welcomed! I want to open the box so bad (when I got there I was surprised to find out that I couldn't return it if it was open).
Oh, we also bought a 128MB Olympus Photo Card for $39.99 (after instant/mail-in rebates - orig $69.99) and an ultra fast AA (& AAA) Ni-MH & Ni-Cd Battery charger (which included 4 AA Ni-MH batteries and a car charger), for $29.99. We did this because I was told at Best Buy that digital cameras in general are high drain devices and we would go through regular batteries like crazy (thus him recommending we get a camera that came with a rechargeable lithium batter).
