* Today's Picks:

NoSpyMail

The program's author defines spymail as "any e-mail message sent to
you which attempts to collect information about you, your computer, or
your e-mail habits without your permission." NoSpyMail detects and
blocks Web bugs in e-mail messages without requiring you to turn off
HTML in Microsoft Outlook (versions 2000 through 2003). The program
requires you to have previously installed the Microsoft .Net
Framework, which is available through Windows Update or Microsoft's
Download Center.

Version: 1.0
Price: Free

WinZip

WinZip has long set the standard for file compression utilities. In
the current version, if you right-click a .zip file, WinZip lets you
select from a cascading menu of recently used folders or retrieve
files from multiple archives at once. Also, the latest release
supports a much stronger encryption standard than previous versions.
And you can now encrypt files that are already zipped. Version 9.0
also has a new "Enhanced Deflate" option that further reduces the size
of .zip files. Finally, the new version's 64-bit extended format lifts
the 4GB limitation so you can create .zip files as large as your heart
desires.

WinZip lets you create self-extracting files, which are ideal for
sending compressed files to those who may not own or know how to use
file compression software. If you transport files by floppy, you'll
appreciate the ability to create a .zip file that spans multiple
disks.

Version: 9.0 SR-1
Price: Free trial; $29 to purchase
