"Straw in the wind" department- car and tire manufacturers are
beginning to discuss and report that tires have a "use by date". This
is becoming a factor for people with expensive low mileage sports cars
and such- it doesn't matter how far you drive, tire compounds do not
have an indefinite life. As I understand it, sun wear is not the only
issue, part of the problem is the load on the tire remaining in one
place and as well the compound degrading. I don't know how real this
all is, but my friend with the BMW Z that is 8 years old with 5,000
miles on it is taking it seriously.
