Nope, it's much worse. I'm talking about code bloat. This symptom of over-indulgence is present is most of the currently popular Linux-based distros, even Fedora Core. Do we really need multiple CD-ROM images to install a good base system? How many good text editors do you need on a system? The prescription for fast relief? Browse to Distrowatch, then download the 49MB Damn Small Linux distro. You can burn in onto a regular CDR, which should take a minute or so. Even better, put it onto a bootable business card for safekeeping in your wallet and deployment when needed. And if you prefer a bootable USB pen drive, get one with DSL pre-installed. DSL worked like a charm on one of my older IBM StinkPads. In less than a minute I was using an incredibly fast and response desktop, with the audio, video, and wireless PCMCIA up and running.
