HURRICANE SEASON ENDING: Three more hurricanes, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne, would 
follow Charley and hit Florida in the next two months. Four hurricanes had 
never before hit the state during one hurricane season, lasting from June 1 to 
Nov. 30 each year. Hurricane season finally ends Tuesday.

RIVER PARK: With extraordinary increases in Naples property values, no 
neighborhood is safe from real estate speculators, and that includes the River 
Park single-family residences just east of Goodlette-Frank Road. �

LAKE TRAFFORD: The unexpected discovery of more than 100 gopher tortoise 
burrows is creating a new hurdle for a project to restore Lake Trafford in 
Immokalee. Wildlife surveyors with the Conservancy of Southwest Florida found 
the burrows in September as part of a pre-construction wildlife check required 
for the $10.4 million project.

STAIGER TO RETIRE: The city's very own mad scientist, Jon Staiger will retire 
at the end of December after 18 years as Naples' natural resources manager. In 
virtually every area, Staiger's gotten exceedingly high marks from the day he 
landed in Naples. The box city leaders checked off most often was "exceeds 
expectations."
