At the same time, the last several newsletters have dealt with a report issued by a research firm that was critical of Linux. Many readers have questioned this coincidence - some seeing it as just ironic, while a few have voiced suspicion about the journalistic integrity of this newsletter. The editors at Network World have no control over who buys advertising in our print, online or e-mail newsletter publications, and no advertiser influences the content of any of these products. This newsletter has reported on studies showing the strengths and weaknesses of Linux - whether it be news of positive Linux market share and successful case studies, or reports on the latest Linux-based worms or security threats. It is the goal of this newsletter to bring IT professionals balanced and fair (notice that wording, Fox News!) reports on new products, industry trends and general happenings in the Linux and open source markets. Linux vs. Microsoft has evolved into one of the hottest of hot-button issues in IT, which is always a good flashpoint for debate. As Linux vendors and Microsoft actively carry on TV, Web and print ad campaigns to convince you who's better, you can be sure this newsletter will continue to bring you influence-free news, analysis and commentary. _______________________________________________________________ To contact: Phil Hochmuth Phil Hochmuth is a Network World Senior Editor and a former systems integrator.
