Tracking the World of Technology Threats So You Don't Have To

Welcome to the PCMag.com Security Watch Newsletter. Every
week we bring you an overview of the current viruses, worms,
and other threats and the information you need to combat
them.

The big news this week is not a live threat, but a serious
vulnerability with threats looming. The Sun Java Plug-in,
which connects the Java virtual machine to Web browsers, has
a hole that could open your system to attackers. Learn more
about it and how to fox the situation in our Top Threat
section.

Last week's Skulls trojan is this week's #1 threat in Panda
Software's list of latest threats. But moving up the list is
a new family of worms named Tasin.

Top Threat: Java Plug-In Bug

The Java Plug-In is software from Sun Microsystems that ties
the Java Virtual Machine to web browsers. It includes a
facility for allowing Javascript in web pages to make calls
in to the Java VM. Flaws in this interface allow an attacker
to execute Java code outside of the protective Java sandbox,
which normally prevents Java programs from misbehaving.
