Welcome to the list Margie!

Lotus did extensive testing on the Yamaha/Toyota 2ZZ-GE engine
and found it was durable for their high performance application
after they added oil cooling. Remember that Lotus has one
of the most extensive engine test facilities in the world and
lots of experience testing other people's engines for emissions,
durability, regulatory compliance, etc. They are one of the
world's major automotive engineering consultancies.

As far as tuning the 2ZZ-GE further, it's probably possible,
but the engine is already pretty highly tuned by both Yamaha
and Lotus. 190 horsepower from 1.8 liters is fairly highly
tuned already. Have you driven the car yet? Do you feel it's
lacking in power?

Cheers,
