Vendors Race to Run Databases on Linux
It was a database-on-Linux kind of a Tuesday, as Sybase
hooked up with IBM to put its ASE relational database out on
IBM's Linux-tuned OpenPower systems and Oracle put its
latest database out on Novell's most current Linux operating
system, SLES.
Analysts say it's all aimed at knocking Microsoft out of the
database picture - particularly the Sybase announcement,
given that Microsoft's SQL Server database originated from
Sybase. Now we've got a somewhat SQL Server-ish database
that actually runs on the imminently un-Microsoft Linux.

1. News: Oracle Apps Ready to Rock and Roll on Novell's Linux OS
Oracle Database 10g, RAC and Applications, among other
technologies, have been tested and certified to deploy on
Novell's SLES 9 Linux operating system. The companies are
touting the duo as being speed demons, citing a TPC-C world
record for nonclustered Linux.
