Emergency IE Patch Fixes Critical Bug

Do you use Internet Explorer? If so, you absolutely need to
get a hold of Microsoft's latest patch. It fixes a problem
so nasty, and so critical, that it was rushed out weeks
before the usual "patch day." The patch fixes the nasty
IFRAME bug recently used by hackers to hijack Web ads around
the world. Our story explains the problem and links you to
the patch. Go there now.

Recover Lost Camera Images

It's happened to most of us. We take a bunch of great
pictures, and then for some reason our camera memory--smart
media, compact flash or whatever--ends up blank. I used to
think those pictures were gone for good, until I read Lance
Ulanoff's latest story about how he actually got 92 images
back from his seemingly ruined compact flash card. Anyone
who takes digital photos should read his story--and download
the program he found. If you use flash cards, you should
have this app.

Sun: The Peter Pan of the Industry

What happens when youthful exuberance gives way to a grown
up company? If you're Sun, you have two choices. One is to
go the way of Wang or Silicon Graphics, and the other is to
grow up. Which path will they take? Eric Nee lays out the
options, and they are not pretty.

Microsoft Cracks Down on Counterfeiters

You've seen those holographic "Certificate of Authenticity"
stickers on just about everything Microsoft makes. They're
just so shiny. But it turns out they aren't as hard to
duplicate as Microsoft had hoped. But now, big green is
fighting back with lawsuits against eight companies accused
of trading in counterfeit labels and unlicensed software.
Who got nabbed? How big is the problem? Our story details
the he said/she said part, and discloses the seamy
underbelly of this shadowy world.

AOL Updates Multimedia Search Engine

A year ago, AOL bought a company called Singingfish, which
indexes more than 14 million audio and video streams. Now,
the huge Internet company has updated its search engine with
even more powerful features that make it easier to use.
We've got details on what's new, where you can find it and
how Singingfish fits into AOL's new strategy of going after
MSN and Yahoo.

Hackers Target VOIP Systems

That's the conclusion of a recent panel at our own Security
Virtual Tradeshow, which wrapped up Wednesday. Hackers are
targeting voice-over-IP Systems and have already brought
more than one big company to its knees. Imagine your phone
system going down for a day--or worse. Our story details the
growing threat. If you're considering VOIP, you have to
consider the security issues, too. And if you missed our
security tradeshow, never fear. We've archived everything
for you to review at your leisure.

Fastest Graphics Chip Ever

Well, maybe not, but it's the fastest you can stick on your
desktop without spending thousands of bucks. ATI just bumped
the clock speed on its flagship part and released the X850
Radeon. We put boards based on the speedy new part to the
test and found that it performs as advertised, pulling away
from nVidia's fastest. How fast? How good? Our in-depth
analysis shows whether it 's worth the money, or if you
should wait or buy down.

Snow and Waterproof Your iPod

Imagine sliding down the deep 'n' steep while jamming to
your iPod, without fear of blowing it out along with your
knee in a catastrophic yard sale. Or catching a curl while
kicking it to the Beach Boys without worrying about a
wipeout drowning your iPod along with imparting a
particularly painful sand facial. Well, worry no more! We've
got details on a completely waterproof enclosure for your
iPod or iPod Mini, up on our ExtremeiPod site.

Internet Speed Record Broken

It's the Internet equivalent of the Bonneville Salt
Flats--the place where geeks go to break on-line transfer
records. And a new land speed record has been set -- 101
gigabits per second between Pittsburgh and Los Angeles. Wow!
For details on who set the record, and how, check out our
story. All I can say is "when do I get that at my house?"
