a prayer? This must be a tail of the round table that I had not yet
read but I know that the knight searching for that holy vessel from
which our Lord did sup. I was sure I was on to it, and wonder that
it should be the name of a great boat with three chambers, that
legendary sacred vessel, variously identified with the Eucharist, but
naming a boat the dish of Pascal's lamb didn't seem appropriate but
you know that the knight was French upon this constant quest,
Perceval, the character of Chrestien's famous pooem. Greel, as in
that written by Helindandus c1200 who writes of vision shown to a
hermit regarding the about which he wrote the well known book in
latin "Gradale" which is latin for the French Greal or Greel or Graal
(Which will it be?). The "Anglish" in anguish butchered the French
word as well as medieval latin word Gradale and made the dang thing
Grail.
Anyway the Hermit translated this to Latin and used the word
scutella, hence meaning shallow vessel, not like a cup or chalice at
all. No wonder Percevel's course was so poorly steered with such a
wonton compass. even if Percevel found it, he would have sought a cup
not a saucer which doesn't make me think of a boat, ie, vessel.
Perhaps Gilbert meant after all, Greek? No I don't know that the
ancient greek Characters are translateable by normal character sets.
I suffer this as well Gilbert, so I suppose I should just think,
Greel. Hmmm. I am in South Texas. Greel. hmmm. How about: Tex-Mex
bar and Greel? Nah. That would insult even the Spanish among us.
I give up. Wait. The word for Grill in Greek is Greel. Voila! Gilbert
meant the cooking grill hung off the stern? Oh I give up.
(now I am just teasing you Gilbert)or as our President has often
said, we Texans are quite capable of manangling our very own version
of the English language. - Gradale now. That would be an interesting
name for an F-Boat. Mona? --dai
