I'm afraid the Bosch seem to have stolen the march on this one - John S is working on a project (that I've had a peek at) which involves measuring very very small changes in acceleration - in the order of 0.05g.

Nick is being extremely modest here. He has been giving me patient yet sound advice on a project which might just save the lives of a few cancer victims if I can get the Bosch accelerometer idea to work, which I think I can. It's just the data sheet that seems intent on making it obscure.
